Prevention
Connections Presents Joseph Roberti, Jr.
With the Prevention Advocate Award
At its 1st Annual Legislative Breakfast
(Kingston)
The 1st Prevention Connections "Advocate Award" was
presented to Ulster County Legislator Joseph Roberti, Jr. in
recognition of his efforts to reduce the impact of smoking
in the community. |
Joe has been
an Ulster County Legislator since 1996 and the Chairman of
the Public Health Committee since 2000. He
has always been a strong advocate for Clean Indoor Air Legislation.
Before the state passed the strong statewide law last year,
Joe had sponsored a Clean Indoor Air law for Ulster County.
Chronogram quote: Roberti’s motivation is both personal
and aimed at the public health issue that smoking represents.
“I
had a family member who got sick from smoking and that was the
impetus to start pushing for legislation. Every person knows
someone who’s had their life affected by smoking, now I’m
one of them, and I’m in a position to do something
about it,” he explains.
Those
of us who work for drug-free communities in Ulster County thank
Joe Roberti for his commitment and his support. Every Ulster
County citizen is in his debt.
If
you know someone you would like to recognize for their contribution
to building strong, healthy communities in Ulster County, let
us know.
