Description:
Residential services for adults are designed for those who require intensive,
24-hour supervised treatment. Meadow Run offers treatment for substance abusers
providing 1) a therapeutic community/family approach; 2) psychiatric/mental health
services as needed; 3) self-help programs including AA and NA.
Residents have
the opportunity to address vocational and educational needs, participate in
daily living skills training and develop healthy recreation and
leisure skills. Treatment
is geared to maintain abstinence and prevent relapse while promoting personal
responsibility and positive character change. Our staff includes a psychiatrist,
nurses, social workers, a nutritionist, vocational/educational counselors,
HIV specialists and substance abuse counselors.
Treatment is
provided with an effort to give each client the best opportunity
to maintain sobriety upon completion.
For residents who do not have a high school diploma, further education is almost
always part of their treatment plan. Daytop offers adult GED (General Equivalency
Diploma) and ABE (Adult Basic Education) classes on campus. Preparation for
taking the tests for these certificates, and the tests themselves,
are administered
at a facility. College classes, in cooperation with Dutchess County Community
College are also available.
Our standard
criteria for admission is based on a client’s need for
chemical dependence services evidenced by recent unsuccessful
attempts at abstinence;
a history of prior treatment episodes including the inability to complete outpatient
treatment; and/or substantial deficits in life skills. Clients are traditionally
referred through EAP programs, Union and court programs, outpatient programs
and family members. After completing
the residential treatment phase, all clients are evaluated
for appropriate aftercare and a referral is made
prior to discharge. Aftercare recommendations will take into
consideration the client’s need for additional recovery
services, vocational and housing needs, family support and neighborhood
resources. Residents may continue treatment at our Far Rockaway
facility, in local half-way houses, or on an outpatient basis.
